ASR Recap

I got back from San Diego early this morning after an exciting week of ASR and its festivities. Here’s the LaidBack Dist booth for Reliance and Siren that I spent most of my time at.

We crammed a lot of guys into this room to which provided for a very tight crew with lots of fun times throughout the whole week. Del Taco was the meal of choice most days, along with a few treats from the AM PM right down the street.

Here’s me and a few of the guys. We checked the “mini mega” demos that were going on all three days and watched 9 year olds easily making the 30ft gap and airing out on the 20ft quarter…. GNARLY

One of my favorite things from the whole week was “The Ripper” commemorative art show celebrating 25 years since the release of one of the most classic and epic skateboard designs. Here’s the original, dated all the way back to 1983, older than me.

All the pieces featured were astonishing, this was painted by legend Steve Caballero himself. So aside from being a legend in skateboarding, inventing and having named one of the most commonly repeated tricks in skateboarding, and being the skater behind the most popular skateboard shoe ever, Steve is also a very talented artist.

Here’s another great rendition by Michael Sieben. You’ve probably seen his work between bueno skateboards, thrasher magazine, and vox shoes.

Another great and powerful piece. The wood work was truly a marvel of craftsmanship.

Finally a tribute to the original artist Vernon Courtland Johnson by Billy Bakker. This was a really great event. Big props to desiree astorga for curating the show. The whole week was great, I already miss the sun and warm of wonderful San Diego as I was greeted by 10 degree weather and snow back here in Colorado. Lots more new stuff to come, be checking back soon.
